Taste & See
Taste & See
“O taste and see that the LORD is good: Blessed is the man that trusteth in him.”
Psalm 34:8
Last Night I made some savory chicken breast on the grill and a huge batch of mixed veggies that were seasoned to perfection. You see the whole family was home for supper, my kids, their sigs, and their kids...it’s some of my favorite times on earth! Now I knew that the adults all loved the food that I made them...but getting kids to eat veggies is quite the challenge.
My oldest grandson Ezra was very reluctant to even try the veggies...he played with the chicken as he took a bite here and there and he found he liked the broccoli, but he just wasn’t into trying that little orange thing we called a carrot and since the potato didn’t look like the broccoli or a french fry, he wasn’t having that either. He saw the exterior and since neither were familiar made the decision that he didn’t like them before he ever tried them.
We as adults often look at a relationship with Christ that way. We have heard others go on about how awesome it is but we just don’t know. It is all unfamiliar and strange and we just can’t trust what other’s say, right? We have “what if” racing through our mind like an Indy race car. We want it to be good but just are afraid to take that leap of faith for ourselves.
Well, Ezra and his mom, my daughter had a showdown. He was forced to try that carrot and the potato...he didn’t care for the carrot (which was more of pre-conceived notion) but he bit into that potato and his eyes lit up and he said, “now that’s good!”
If we would just have faith as a child and take that first bite into a relationship with the Lord, we would shout out Psalm 34:8, “O taste and see that the LORD is good: Blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” That first taste of His goodness will lead to another and soon, when we see just how much we can trust Him, we will keep going back for more! Let that simmer for a bit!
