Doing The Word
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: for he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.”
James 1:22-24
Have you ever lied to yourself? I mean been so convincing that you actually believe it as truth. I used to work with a guy who was about 5’ 9” and he had convinced himself that he was 6’2”. He believed it so much that he would argue with anybody. He would even come up to me and stand there and say, “see, I’m as to all as Larry, 6’2”!” The problem was the top of his head was just past my chin...the fact was he was really only about 5’8”, lol.
It is another fact that too many Christians in churches today have deceived themselves. They attend church, they serve in some way, they even read their Bible most if not every day. The problem is they don’t read their Bible like it is the only thing they will eat or drink for the day. Like their very existence depends on what the Word says to them. They look at the Bible as if they just rolled out of bed for the day, go to the mirror to prepare for the day and are convinced that they look perfect from the jump. So, they don’t fix anything and just present themselves as is.
When we go to the Mirror of God’s Word we should go looking to see Jesus and when we don’t we should let the Spirit of God do a makeover, fixing how we are presented to our world so that they get a better view of Christ. This is why we MUST be a “Doer” of the Word. Ok, you go to church and hear a great message, now go and live in the Word that was preached! So, you’ve read your Bible and God’s Spirit has shown you some flaws He wants to do some work on...obey Him and the Word! Don’t just listen and learn without making application. Make-up only works when it is applied, right? I’m a guy but I know that much about make-up! So, the Word of God be your Make-Up today, APPLY IT!
