Not Fashionable
Not Fashionable
“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;”
Colossians 3:12
I know you didn’t know this, but I am a fashionista, or a very fashionable person! Just kidding, I got stuck in the 90’s with my fashion lol. But I do believe that as a child of God we should really care what we wear...easy ladies, I am not coming after you for your leggings! This isn’t about what we physically wear, but a spiritual dress code so to speak. In that aspect, as a pastor, I better be “with it” so to speak when it comes to fashion.
The Bible gives us our dress code in Colossians 3:12. It says, “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;”. Now it tells us to put these things on so that we will look like the One the world around us is supposed to see.
When I was a young man, we all wanted to “be like Mike”. I mean if Michael Jordan endorsed it, we wore it! Nike was making a killing off that man...he did ok too. We all wanted to wear what Mike wore in hopes that we might be recognized as a baller. We wanted to be fashionable...accepted by those around us.
As a child of God we have to choose to “put on” these things. We have to choose to want to be like Jesus. We have to desire to want to be recognized as a Christian. It’s not about the clothes we wear but about the Spirit we put on, being merciful, kind, humble, meek and extremely patient with others. Do you not why most of us don’t choose to “dress this way”, it’s not fashionable to us. Let that simmer for a bit.
