Who Do You Love?
Who Do You Love?
“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”
James 1:12
Who do you love? It is a simple question that hardly ever is answered really honestly. I struggle to be honest in my answer. It is simple though. I love me...more than anyone or anything else, I love me. You might be thinking, “well you’re arrogant, aren’t you Larry?!” The answer to that is simple as well...yes I am.
Have you ever just woke up...not from sleep but from an apathetic state of life? I mean when you come to the realization that you have gone a couple weeks without really living. That was me this morning. I woke up and realized that my arrogant, self-loving, pride filled, wicked, sinful flesh had taken control of my life again. I came to the realization that I had left my best friend somewhere and upon getting honest with myself, I wasn’t sure where I had left Him. What an idiot! To try to do life without the One who gives Life is a fruitless endeavor.
Would you like to know the most effective tool used by the enemy to trip up a vibrant walk with Christ? Apathy. Apathy sets in when routine becomes comfortable. You wake up, you get ready, you praise, you pray, you read your Bible, you write down some devotions, and then you just go about your day doing what you do...being you. Then before you know it, you have bitter thoughts toward your wife, or you’re screaming at someone from the safety of your vehicle, or you’re passing on every opportunity to share Christ with those God is putting in your path...or you’re allow thoughts to become more than temptations...it really doesn’t take much to get tripped up...you don’t have to do anything really, just don’t pay attention to the enemy (my flesh) creeping in and taking over.
Apathy never presents itself, it just lies patiently waiting to tempt us with this simple thought, “life is good, and I am good”. This temptation is ruining most of us in the church today. The truth is I am not good...and any good that life brings is a gift from God...you know, the One who I am supposed to love more than me. The Bible tells us in James, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”. I came to myself today because the Holy Spirit through the Word of God asked me this today, “Larry, who do you love?” I knew it wasn’t Christ and knelt down and repented. So, since you’ve stuck around, let me ask you, Who do You Love?
