Selfish to Selfless
Selfish to Selfless
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
It is so easy to be totally wrapped up in who we are, how we feel, or what we are going through. It would be weird if we didn’t feel those things and become very self-aware, self-absorbed, or self-obsessed. Why, because let’s be honest, life is about us. I know there are those who are saying...”um, Larry, you don’t know me and how I try to make sure others know how much I care about them as I do things for them, and I...I...I”. We even make “helping others” about us.
You know what is just so crazy though, God know this about us. So, when we are in those situations where we tend to react so selfishly, He gives us an opportunity to introduce our problems to Him! I love prayer...honest, sincere, heart felt, and spirit filled crying out to the God who created this selfish sinner! A prayer that ignites the indwelling spirit to bring peace to the storm of self! Then God does something even more crazy...He sends the answer!
Often times God will send one of His other selfish sinners, but they have been where I am at. They have cried out to God and found Him to be that God of ALL Comfort! They have ceased from the selfish looking in by a spiritual looking up which then led them to a selfless looking out! God sent them to help me see the comfort He gives His children.
God gives comfort to those who seek it. Just remember though, He didn’t comfort you so you could be selfish with it.
