At Home Too
At Home Too
“Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:12-13
I praise God for my pastor. Larry Groves was not a perfect man but He loved the Lord and taught me things that have been used greatly by God in my life. Things like nothing should speak in my life more than scriptures. Did you know that is what Paul is saying here to the church at Phillipi? Paul is telling the church that fellowship is great and hearing the Word of God being preached is vital but it’s not all.
God wants us to each one allow His Word & His Spirit to strengthen our faith. He tells us to “work out your own salvation”. This isn’t about making sure you stayed saved by doing enough good works and keeping from sin. This is about knowing truth. Jesus said that we should know the Truth and that the Truth would make us free, and if were His disciples that we would be free indeed! That means if we know Jesus, and I mean in a very intimate way, we will be for realzies free! Free from sin’s power and our flesh’s pull. This “work out your own salvation is just like going to the gym. You don’t go to the gym and get a new body every time you go, right? You go and work on what you already have, make it stronger, healthier. So too, we too to the Word and allow the Holy Spirit, our Personal Trainer to give us what we need to strengthen our faith and cause us to be spiritually healthy!
So, what my pastor taught me about scriptures changed my life. As a matter of fact it did something that a pastor could think was counterintuitive. It made it to where I no longer needed Larry Groves to walk with Christ. He became irrelevant to my spiritual health. He didn’t mind. Pastor Groves knew that it was God working in my life to do His will for His pleasure. It’s good to have church at church. It’s better to have a home gym on top of that. If you can’t walk with Christ at home, you’re not walking with Him at church.
