Stop Playing Dead
Stop Playing Dead
"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?"
Romans 6:1-3
I challenge each of you as you read this to prepare your hearts for our Time in God’s Word today. As we start this series of “Living the Gospel” it is vital to understand our role. A role that I struggled to accept for too many years. A role I have to be reminded of too often today.
Have you ever seen a possum play dead? It’s going about it’s business, of whatever a possum does and when it feels threatened of death, it then puts on an Oscar performance of faking death. This is a defense mechanism. The hope is that whatever is threatening its way of life will assume that it is dead and leave it alone. I will share some times from my life this morning of moments that I have played possum when my way of life was threatened and how that not one time was my performance accepted by God.
My hope today is that you will come prepared to truly listen and understand that we are all accountable for what truths God has given us from His Word.
