What If I'm Angry
What If I’m Angry?
Matthew 5:21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22b But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment:
What does it take to get you angry? What sets you off? What or who gets you so worked up that you feel like you could rip a phone book in half...I just realized half of you have no idea what a phone book is, lol.
Sadly I have far too many things that get me angry. Do you know what is even more sad? The ones that can get me the most angry are the people I am supposed to care about the most. The top of the list, my wife! I love her more than any other human on this planet and there is no one else that can send me from 0 to Red Ross (some of you will get that) like my beautiful wife.
Now I know there will be some of the very spiritual giants out there who will quote Ephesians by saying “be angry and sin not”...which is in the Bible, but...are you sure you got the context right? Whose sin are you angry at? Because in context there it should be your own. Did you know Jesus preached about us being angry? Yes He did! In the Sermon on the Mount He said this, “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment:”
Judgment? What judgment? Funny enough, the judgment is the prison we place ourselves in when we get angry at someone over trivial things. Don’t get me wrong, if I am striving to walk with Christ and someone wants to hurt someone I care about, I can allow my self to be spirit led to protect whoever from whatever. But when it is because of something someone said or did that is not life threatening, and I allow it to make me angry enough to hold that person or persons in contempt of my own court, the only sentence being passed down will be the prison time for me with bars of bitterness keeping me locked up until I do what Jesus said in the rest of that passage...
Jesus said, that if I want to talk to Him or my heavenly Father but I am angry at someone, I have to go to them and make things right or Jesus and I can’t be right...why? Because Jesus can’t hang out with me in a prison of bitterness against someone He loves. Let that simmer for a bit.
