Daily Dose of Done
Daily Dose of Done
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.”
Luke 9:23-24
Jesus never discriminates! He said this to all of us, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.”
Let’s take a moment and break this down! If ANY man...this means whoever chooses to do so, no matter your past, present, or presets of life, you can choose today to stop, look to Jesus and go after Him! In order to do so, we have to say NO to who we think we want to be. We have to say NO to what we think our life is about. We have to say NO to all that we are and take up our cross...Now maybe you’ve heard that phrase before, “take up your cross” and maybe you haven’t, but I know there are not some pile of crosses for folks to just start carrying around to say “look at me, I’ve got my cross, I am a Christ follower”...cuz if there was, that’s what we would do! We would make it about us.
Taking up your cross is about nailing down whatever is keeping you from following Jesus. You know when Jesus was nailed to the cross it physically hurt Him, right? When we say NO to the things that we need to get rid of in our lives and nail these things to our cross, it hurts for a while...our flesh is like a big baby that wants what it wants when it wants it. We have to be filled with faith that if we do these things, that Christ will keep His Word. He said if we do these things, that while it seems like we are losing who we are, we are promised to experience REAL LIFE in Christ.
You might be like, “C’mon Larry, that just doesn’t make sense!” To which I would reply, “you are right...but faith never does.” Either Christ is the Truth or He is not...you choose for you...well actually you choose for Him...you see, real life is only found in Christ. We have to daily choose to let His finished work be enough as we nail down who we are and follow who He is. It’s our daily dose of done...let that simmer for a bit.
