First Things First
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Matthew 6:33
Would you like to know how to be like Christ? It’s not a mystery and there is no cheat code or special formula. It simply this, pursue knowing Jesus and encourage others to pursue knowing Jesus. I had a young man ask me the difference between the “kingdom of God” and the “kingdom of heaven”, to which I replied, “in my opinion the kingdom of God is about salvation here in life, while the kingdom of heaven is more about eternal salvation.” Let me explain!
You see the kingdom of God is now...today...this very moment. So, now, today, in this very moment, what is your priority? Jesus said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” What is Jesus wanting us to see? Good question! He wants us to see Him! What did He do His whole life? He pursued pleasing His Heavenly Father by leading others to know God. This is what we are to do as Christians...pursue knowing Jesus and encourage others to pursue to know Jesus. What we do instead is make sure we have food to eat, clothes to wear, and houses to live in. These are not bad things but they are not what needs to come first.
Pursuit of Christ comes first, being right with God comes first (that’s what seeking his righteousness means), then “all these things” will be in their proper place. God sees to it, when we seek now, today, this very moment to know Christ.
Now, what is the kingdom of heaven? Good Question! That is what we will enjoy even more when we seek the kingdom of God...let that simmer for a bit!
