Peace Man, Peace
Peace Man, Peace!
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
John 14:27
As a child of the 70’s, I grew up hearing a lot about peace. I remember a certain show that had some folks working at a radio station in a central city in Ohio and one of the characters would always say, “Peace man, peace!” Usually it was after he had tried to start an argument with someone. He didn’t want peace, he just didn’t want to have his perspective disputed.
Here we are the morning after Election day...the results aren’t in yet although projections are being made, I think we all know that no matter who wins, there won’t be peace about it for several months. Whichever candidate becomes our next president I do not personally believe either will usher in a time of peace in our nation, nor for the world. There is only One who will be able to accomplish that, and He was not on the ballot.
You might be filled or tempted to be filled with a lot of anxiety today, so I thought let’s let the Word of God usher in something for us today! Jesus told His disciples in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Did you catch that?! If you know Jesus, you can know peace...or else He is a liar! Not peace that only lasts until the next issue arises...no peace that, well may not make sense to those that don’t really know Jesus. Jesus is the Prince of Peace and His peace is not like our shock jock character from Cincy...No, when Jesus says “peace”, the winds and seas obey Him...will you? Let that simmer for a bit.
