If It’s Bible...It’s Good!
”Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.“
2 Thessalonians 2:15
If it’s Bible...it’s Good!
As a child of God and as a pastor, I am not in the same place I was even 10 years ago. I have a wide variety in my genre’s of godly music. I have abolished tie wearing in my life, except for the love of any preacher friend who has me speak and has that standard in their church. I believe that while it is my job to point people to Jesus, it is not my job to drag them to Jesus. Most of all, I believe that when we read scripture, we have to look for the Spirit of Christ...HE and HE alone leads me to truth. If we don’t we will only see the letter of the law and it only condemns me and any that I deem condemnable.
Traditions are not a bad thing. Traditions only become a bad thing if they’re not done in Spirit and Truth. Traditions can be a powerful thing if they are done for love of God and Man. Traditions are moving if they are done as we follow after the Spirit as HE guides us in Truth.
The Bible tells us in 2 Thessalonians ”Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.“ Did you catch that?! Let me “LarraPhrase”... Paul is saying, “hey church, don’t just do away with godly habits in your corporate worship! Stick to the things that come from God’s Word and follow them hard!”
Don’t just trash a habit or tradition in your church when it is a godly form of worship. Don’t just dismiss something because it’s not consumer friendly. Church isn’t about appealing to the masses, it is about lifting up our Head, Christ. Church is not supposed to be about the Consumer, it is supposed to be about Christ. When we make church about us, that’s anti-christ.
But then, when traditions become something that when not observed we hold those not observing them in some place of contempt, well then we have ceased following that which is good and have become anti-christ. Let that simmer for a minute.
