Walk This Way
Walk This Way
“I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;”
Ephesians 4:1-2
Have you ever been in jail? Have you ever been someone’s prisoner? Prisoners don’t have a lot of choices. Really they can choose to follow the rules or make life harder by not following the rules. I used to go to jail all the time, I mean like once a week. What was great is that I got to leave the jail every time I went...I was the chaplain! You know what I noticed when I was in the jail? Whenever the guards would want to transport a bulk of prisoners from one place to another, the would get them all together in a line and request them to stay in a straight line and to “walk this way”. So, the prisoners would have a choice, walk as instructed or not. I won’t go into detail on what would transpire if one chose not to walk as instructed, let it suffice to say, they would have a bad day. However, those that followed the instructions would get from where they were to where they needed to be in good shape. Very few though would get there in good spirits.
If you know Christ, you have been made His prisoner...no you’re not in jail nor has your freedom been taken from you, so to speak, but you are now a captive of the Creator. He has designed a way to get you from where you are to where He wants you to be. All that we need to do is to follow our Instructor, the Holy Spirit! Here Paul is begging us to watch how we walk. He say’s “Walk this way! Be humble, be kind, don’t bring friction, be patient in the journey and with your fellow prisoners!”
I have a theory as to why so many people reject going to God’s Jail House each week...that’s the church if you aren’t tracking. They don’t want to be there because too many of God’s prisoners (that is us church members) are to busy making life difficult for ourselves and for others by not walking the way God has designed. We talk bad about one another instead forbearing. We fight with the Spirit’s leading and with each other instead of just following God’s 2 rules...love Him and love each other. Why would anyone want to be a prisoner in that Jail? Sadly, they don’t realize they are in a prison of sin and we hold the key to their cell...we are just too busy walking our way instead of God’s. Hey, why don’t we just decide to follow the Spirit today as He says, “walk this way!” You have no idea who God might use you to set free today!
