A Simple Life
A Simple Life
“But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”
Hebrews 13:16
I really have a problem with making things more difficult then they need to be. As a Christian life really is simple, yet I tend to add so much to what is truly quite simple. This passage is talking to a people who really struggle with making their worship of God more about what they do than who they are. We do the same thing. My life as God’s child is not about how much I go to church, how much I put in the offering, how many souls I see converted, or how holy my life might appear. Don’t get me wrong, these are all good, even great things. They cannot be who I am though. Who I am is to be a version of Christ. Christ didn’t just do good everywhere He went, He was good everywhere He went.
Yes, I am to “do good”, you know that list of things that I gave, they are good, but if I am not good, that is to say, my heart doesn’t communicate what my life does, this is the wrong kind of sacrifice. My motives matter. If I want everyone to see just how great a Christian I am, my life is on the wrong altar. I need to go back and reset my motives. When my life is sacrificed on the altar that no one can see but God (read vss.8-16) my doing good will communicate the heart of Christ...this is what pleases God!
It is really quite simple. Love God first, you know, like the Word says. If we do that, the love He has for our neighbor will just pour out of us. So, do good, but first surrender all of you to the One that IS GOOD.
