Just Like New
Just Like New!
“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
Romans 6:4
My family loves to tease me about how I am with new things. I love when I get something new! It doesn’t really matter what it is, I just love to hold it, play with it, wear it, look at it, or whatever you do with whatever it might be. Several years ago I had bought a new pair of black dress shoes. Now I only wore dress shoes on Sundays when we go to church but we bought the shoes like on a Tuesday or Thursday...I don’t know it was too far away from Sunday for me to enjoy my new shoes. My son came down the stairs and saw me sitting on the couch with my shiny new black shoes right next to me on the couch. Yes, the ridiculing started immediately and now whenever I get something new, well the topic comes up.
I cannot help it! I love to show off when I have something new. Do you know that I struggle showing off one thing that is new...yeah, my life in Christ. I have often sat and wondered why that is? Why do I, one who LOVES new things, struggle to love my new life in Christ? It really is a simple answer, my old self doesn’t want to die. The problem is that if my old self doesn’t die to my affections and lusts, then I can never really show off this new life in Christ.
Coming this Sunday morning we are going to really dig into how we might learn to die to who we are so we might be found sitting with and relishing the new life we have been given in Christ...I hope you will come!
