Bubble Busting
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Romans 12:2
The Bible tells us that we are and always will be vehemently opposed to doing things the way God wants. Which is ironic in that we don’t want to hear that. We like to make a little bubble we live in where we are allowed to believe that we are a Christ follower even though we do 90% of things in our lives our own way. When we read verses like this it can be detrimental to our way of thinking and burst our little bubble. You might be thinking, “well, Larry, you don’t get it, I do a lot of good things and I don’t do many if any bad things.” To which I would say, “I know! I feel the same way in my bubble!” Here is the problem, we are the world. (for those of you who now have that song going through your mind, you are welcome!;-)
We have this mentality (bubble) that because we may not be living wickedly that we are living righteously. But God’s Word tells me that my flesh is at war with God and always will be. Do you know what espionage is? It is when someone gets on the inside and knows all the secrets and plans and then uses them against those they’ve infiltrated so that they can win the war. That is our flesh! My flesh knows what the Bible says and knows God’s game plan. So if my flesh can convince me that what I am doing is right regardless of what the Word says then they start getting victory in my life.
We like to pour our efforts into our lives thinking that we are doing right but 90% of the time what I am doing is for me not for Christ. So, all I am doing is pouring my efforts into the preformed frame of Larry which will only make my life look like Larry. God wants me to allow Him to pour who He is into my life as I lay my efforts aside so that He can fill my life with Who He is and cause others to see a transformed life that looks more like Christ.
I think it is time we allow the Spirit of God and the Word of God to do some bubble busting in our lives today as He fills us with Grace so that we might show something different to those in our lives. Is your bubble still intact?
