He's Your God Too
He’s Your God Too!
“Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, Make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, Talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his holy name: Let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. Seek the LORD and his strength, Seek his face continually.”
1 Chronicles 16:8-11
If you don’t have siblings, this may not be as relatable to you as those of us that do. In my family growing up there was no question who Mom & Dad’s favorite was...well I was Mom’s favorite until my teen years lol, but then it was all Cori...Cori, Cori, Cori! Now Mom & Dad may try to deny it, but actions always speak louder than words. My parents used to make this meatloaf...it was pretty good, but they cooked it in this vat of canned stewed tomatoes and green beans...thankfully the meatloaf was still good but them green beans were not...I cannot eat stewed tomatoes to this day...I see a can and shivers go up my spine! Well, I always had to eat it, no matter how nasty it was, I had to eat a little bit. I think it may be that dad wanted me to fill up on something so I didn’t eat all the meatloaf lol. Anyway, along comes Cori...now my other sister Cathy Jean and I always had to eat it, but it took one time for Cori to eat and throw up for her to never have to eat it. We used to get the best broasted chicken from this place that we all loved, but Cori didn’t so they would get her her own little pizza...that we couldn’t touch...yes I loved the chicken but come on...pizza!
When I became a parent it all started to make sense to me. Cori wasn’t Mom & Dad’s favorite as much as she needed them the most. She had some serious kidney issues and some other things that she wrestled with. She also just seemed to want to be with them more than Cathy Jean and I did....as a parent that is just sweet. You want all of you kids to want to be with you but sometimes there is one who just needs you a little more in some seasons of life. My kids love to argue over who was Kristie & I’s favorite but at one point they have all felt they were our favorites.
As a child of God, I often feel like His favorite, but I know that even though I feel that way that He loves all His kids the same. I think though that I just need Him more than some. The Bible says this in one of David’s Songs of praise, “Seek the LORD and his strength, Seek his face continually.” What a thought! It is a thought that we often don’t really think about because we don’t really think we need His strength. Then there are those who need His strength but they sit and watch the relationship someone else has with God and don’t think God loves them as much...they feel like “well they are just God’s favorite”. They see that relationship and even hear of it or read of it some devotional communication, you know like this one, and are fine with just getting second hand love. They love to see that God loves someone but don’t seek His face and strength for themselves.
Listen, no judgment here, just got to ask though, why would you settle for a second hand relationship with a God who loves you so much? Did you know He has all the benefits you see in other’s lives waiting for you to just ask for. When is the last time you just said, “God, I need You, I am sick of this mess I’m eating and reject it, I just need You!” then open up His Word and let Him pour out His blessings on you...first hand! So, what are you waiting for? Go on, get alone with your Heavenly Father! He is your God too!
