Speaking From Hurt
Speaking From Hurt
”For all the day long have I been plagued, And chastened every morning. If I say, I will speak thus; Behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children. When I thought to know this, It was too painful for me; Until I went into the sanctuary of God; Then understood I their end.“
Psalm 73:14-17
It stinks when you get hurt. When someone you are close to deliberately says or does something regardless of how it will make you feel. Why do we allow people to get close? Why do we let our guard down? Why do we allow them back in again to do the damage. Why does it seem sometimes that just as the last wound is healing the bandage is ripped off again.
I hate being vulnerable. I also hate letting you all know what my serious struggles are. But, God seems to think that if I share my struggles with others, maybe we can all find victory in doing things according to His Word. You see, I struggle to not lash out. It’s like a reflex for me when someone hurts me or someone I care about, my first reaction is to go for the jugular, metaphorically speaking. I can say some pretty hateful and damaging things when I speak from a place of hurt...I would have to say it is one of my biggest daily struggles...still. I have found a way though to keep my stinking mouth shut and pray that the Holy Spirit give me a better perception.
Asaph was one of the main writers in Psalm and he was used by God to really show something to us in Psalm 73. He had been hurt. He had some bitterness and wanted to speak out against the evil of others until God gave him a better perspective. He came to a place where he thought, “If I say what I want, how much damage and offense will I be to the image bearers of God? How will they know Him? There end is already decided if they don’t know Him.” (I’m Laraphrasing;-)
If we speak from the hurt caused we hurt the cause of Christ. How will those hurting me quit hurting anyone until they quit hurting.
