Not Just Bread
“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4
Jesus is call the Bread of Life (John 6:35). He is so much more! He is not just bread! I had a wonderful bagel yesterday at Lincoln Square here in town. It was perfect in texture, taste, and toasty-ness (yeah, I made up a word:-). It was very good...but you know what, by the time dinner came around, I was hungry for something else, but I didn’t go back and get another bagel...I mean I will soon but I didn’t yesterday. There are a lot of options for me when it comes to choice of grain consumption, like baked bread, bagels, biscuits, chips, tortillas, BROWNIES!!! Lot’s of choices, but nothing that truly satisfies and sustains, so I keep going back to get more.
Jesus is the Bread of Life, Jesus is the Word of God. He literally is what proceeded from God! He is the broken bread that we use as a holy ordinance in remembering His sacrifice for our sins. His Word is that bread that we spiritually consume so that we find spiritual sustenance for our walk with Him. The problem is just consuming Him on Sunday when you go to church will never sustain you for the week. We need more! Every day we should hunger and thirst after His righteousness and go to the only one that satisfies and sustains! He will be what you need today! It may be fresh baked bread! You know, a fresh revelation just for you! It may be a toasty bagel, something that you really can chew on! It could be like a cat head biscuit, just light and perfect for lifting your spirit. It could be like a tortilla or chips, something you can really dip into your life and taste how good God is. It could by like a brownie, just so sweet you can’t wait to take another bite. No matter what it is for today, use what He gives today...then tomorrow get what He has for you then! If you do, you will see that Jesus the Word, is not just bread.
