What I Say
What I Say
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”
Psalm 19:14
Words...words have meaning, right? Even words said in passing carry weight. I’m not a young man...but I am not old either lol, but there are some things that culture dictates that I do now and one of them is texting. Don’t get me wrong, I find texting very convenient when talking is not. The problem is we often read a text sent to us as if we sent it and we do this because you cannot get tone in text. Man has there been some communication breakdown in many of my text conversations. I would rather just have a conversation most times so folks can hear my heart. However, there are times where I need to keep my mouth shut until I take some time to filter what I may want to say through the Holy Spirit so that I can say what He would have me say. Psalm 19 says this, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” What a thought! God sent us a very relevant text message! Did you get the tone? Would you say that God wants us to think with humility and meekness before we speak? Would you get the sense that the last thing God wants us to be is abrasive or contentious? If you didn’t get that sense, maybe it is because you read it with your personality and from your perspective. Maybe you should read more of the words surrounding it so you might get the context of what God is trying to get us to see, that way you might get His tone...His personality...His perspective.
It is really quite simple...before you send that text, post that comment, have that conversation, make that point, confront the offender...whatever your context, ask the Holy Spirit to help you. Ask yourself, “would I say this in front of God? Would He be pleased not just with what I say, but with how I am saying it? Will this bring Him glory?” You will probably find, like I have, it will end up being an entirely different conversation.
