My Motives Matter
My Motives Matter
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: But the LORD pondereth the hearts.”
Proverbs 21:2
Have you ever thought about why you’re doing what you’re doing while you’re doing it? Seriously? Now have you ever thought about the fact that God knows exactly why you’re doing whatever you’re doing? This should be a very sobering thought! The book you’re reading, the show you’re watching, the conversations you’re having, the links you’re following, the way you drive, how you dress, when you’re cooking or cleaning...I could go on. It doesn’t matter what it is that you are doing there is a reason you’re doing it.
Now let THIS simmer in your brain pan for while, EVERYTHING we do is one of two things, Works or Worship...let me say that again so that you really allow it to sink in. EVERYTHINGwe do is either works or worship. Now if you are someone who has never placed their faith in Jesus Christ your works are for you and your worship is about you. If you are someone who knows Christ as their Savior then your works are always for you unless they are out of a heart of love in obedience to Christ, then they are worship. If you think I’m crazy or out in left field by myself, read 1Corinthians 3 and get back with me. As a child of God, we are to have a life built on Christ the Foundation. So, every choice we make, word we say, action we take or don’t take...no matter what it is mentally, emotionally, physically, socially, culturally, etc., it will be for ourselves or works, which produce wood, hay, and stubble...all very flammable; or they will be for Christ or worship, which produces gold, silver, and precious stone...all made more pure by fire...go ahead read if for yourself.
Now, with that tidbit of brain food simmering in the brain pan, “Have you ever thought about why you’re doing what you’re doing while you’re doing it?” You see Proverbs 21:2 tells us this, “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: But the LORD pondereth the hearts.” So, you can tell yourself that you’re doing something for God and just be hammering away with wood, hay, and stubble. Why? Because no matter what you might be able to convince yourself of, God actually knows why we do everything we do. We pick what we build with on the foundation of Christ by our motives.
I remind myself of this everyday...my motives matter. So, will I choose works or worship? God knows, do you?
